Drinking Pepsi Throwback is like having sex with an alien

Recently, LP, Marc, Nick, Tinz, and myself went on a 3 store journey to try new Pepsi Throwback.

Drinking Pepsi T-Back enhances your life

Drinking Pepsi T-Back enhances your life

It’s Pepsi, but with natural sugar. Not to be confused with Pepsi that’s drank in Europe (I’ve had it, it’s different and weird). Once we got ourselves some T-back, we knew we had something special. I read the ingredients list and was surprised to see that there were only 6: carbonated water, pure cane sugar, caramel coloring, phosphoric acid, caffeine, and natural flavor. We each took a sip and were taken to a magical world of the past. We realized we were doing something completely new to us and would never be the same again.

Jokes started surfacing. We would go on and on trying to find another excuse to drink more T-back.

Caution: Vision may become blurry due to the awesomeness of T-Back

We then purchased a 12 pack of T-back and had it available at a get-together of 10 people.  By the next morning, no T-back remained. T-back miraculously enhanced hanging out, made life better, made smiles wider, and healed the sick.

“Pepsi T-back: Enhance yo’ life!”

ForgottenChicago.com has cool stuff that you never knew!

ForgottenChicago.com’s main goal is “to discover and document little known elements of Chicago’s infrastructure, architecture, neighborhoods and general cityscape, whether existing or historical.” They do a great job on their site and I’ve found so many fun things about Chicago that I never really noticed before.

"This “Y” shaped figure, which represents the three branches of the river as they come together at Wolf Point, can be found on structures and buildings all across the city. While prominent on many municipal buildings and street lighting boxes, it can also often be found interestingly hidden in the facades of older commercial and industrial buildings across the city."

The group does excellently affordable walking tours on Sundays in the city and they do fun presentations at local libraries as well. So if you’re an architecture buff or want to get to know the city’s history a bit more, check ‘em out!

This is a monument to the first Softball game ever played. It's located on the campus of Michael Reese hospital. This totally explains why every company in Chicago has a softball team!

We believe in you, Steve Wiebe!

Keith, Tinz, Marc, and myself are HUGE fans of the fantastic documentary King of Kong: A Fistful of Quarters. It chronicles a real-life hero, Steve Wiebe, trying to be recognized as the true Donkey Kong Champion. Unlike most people, Steve has an evil arch-nemesis (Billy Mitchell) who will stop at nothing to keep Steve down.

Donkey Kong is highly renowned for its difficulty and is arguably the hardest video game ever. Most people barely get past the 3rd level on a consistent basis. If you haven’t seen the film, do yourself a favor and see it.

Today at the E3  gaming convention, Steve is trying to beat Billy’s most recent (video-taped) record at Donkey Kong in front of the largest audience ever for such an attempt. Billy was invited to play Steve in a head-to-head match, but Billy (as usual) has taken the cowards way out and dodged Steve again. We at Octavarius are throwing our full support behind Steve Wiebe. Go Steve Wiebe, Go!

Art Institute Modern Wing: Good signs for modern art

I visited the new Art Institute Modern Wing last weekend during the Lollapalooza-esque fervor that surrounded it’s opening. And if art holds a mirror up to nature, then the Art Institute is the fun house of art mirrors.
I have a sorted history with modern art. My father took me to the Art Institute for [...]

Star Trek, that movie all the cool kids are seeing

So yeah, Star Trek is back.  JJ Abrams did a not-reboot of the series by simply starting a new branch of reality due to time travel.  I would say this is hokey, but it’s a time honored tradition in Star Trek (as is not questioning the time travel physics).  Luckily, we all understand the equasion: [...]

The King of Cocktails

I’m a big fan of booze. It’s delicious. I’ll try just about anything once. Dale DeGroff has taken bartending to an art form and beyond. I was first exposed to him on The Rachel Maddow Show about a month and a half ago. Rachel, too, is a big cocktail fan and has him on regularly. [...]

I Am A Tremendous Idiot.

So just yesterday, I was sitting on the couch, thinking about the Blackhawks’ awesome win on Saturday, and my mind wandered to one of my favorite film series as a child: The Mighty Ducks.

This young, rag-tag group of social misfits and questionable athletes are coached up by a former hockey player turned lawyer to become [...]
