Sweet Georgia Brown, it’s my first Octavarius post.  And, as such, I decided to load up a script I wrote for a trailer for a fake Pokemon live-action movie.

If you can name all these Pokemon, then like I, you've failed at life.

If you can name all these Pokemon, then like I, you've failed at life.

For some unknown reason (the Dark Knight) every studio is pushing for gritty and dark re-imaginings of shit we all loved as kids.  While the Dark Knight ruled my child-like brain, this isn’t necessary for EVERYTHING I loved as a kid.  We don’t need super-cool-robotic GI Joe movie.  We didn’t need a stylized Matrix-y Speed Racer, nor do we need a hyper-realistic, terrifying Superman film (as they’re discussing), because all that will lead to is a hyper-violent Power Rangers film or, God forbid, someone trying to make Mighty Max actually cool.  His friend was a bird.  That sucks. That said, I still stand behind this Pokemon trailer.  Granted, most people wouldn’t want to see this particular movie, though I would wait in line overnight.  Enjoy!

POKEMON: GENESIS: TRAILER

Camera opens on two men sitting by a campfire at night. The shot happens over the shoulder of one man (ASH) sitting pensively looking into the fire. On the other side is BROCK, lying back and looking at the night sky. They are illuminated by the fire, which causes the light to roll over them in waves.

ASH: I’m doing what I always wanted, but I never expected it to be like this.

Camera pans to the fire, swoops in.
CUT to a shot of ASH walking through the forest, perhaps a weedle hanging from a tree looking at him

ASH (V.O.): All my life, I dreamed of adventuring. But I was wrong.

CUT shot of ASH sitting at a table, three pokeballs before him.

ASH (V.O.): It isn’t all fun and games. You have to make decisions.

CUT quick shot of young ASH playing with Pokemon toys, his mother comes in, slaps the back of his head and takes away the toys.

ASH (V.O.): Based on who you wanna be –

CUT shot of ASH sitting beside a bed, his mother laying near motionless in it.

ASH (V.O.): And where you came from.

Shot returns to the fire.

ASH: I’m getting better. I can feel it. But it’s not good enough. It’ll never be good enough. Not until I’m the champion. The best.

Screen goes BLACK

ASH: At any cost.

Shot of ASH waking up, bound, beaten, and slightly bloody while tied to a chair. Pan of the room reveals a waist-tall figure covered entirely in shadow in the corner. A woman with a large R on her chest (JESSE) stands in the background, head hung, solemnly playing a pokeflute. JAMES is standing before ASH, holding a knife and tracing it along his face. Throughout JAMES talking, faint lightening becomes stronger and stronger through the window.

JAMES: (dark, hoarsely) “Truth” and “Love” are meaningless ideals. We will usher in an age of chaos and destruction. (His knife stops next to ASH’s eye) Not that you’ll be around to see it.

MEOWTH: (harsh whisper) Meowthhh that’s right.

An electric guitar version of the song that plays when entering Viridian begins, very high energy. A series of quick shots follow through the music.

CUT MISTI frantically tearing apart a room.

CUT ASH standing across from two trainers (BUG CATCHER and GENTLEMAN).

CUT BROCK running alongside NURSE JOY, pleading with her.

CUT ASH screaming and then punching a wall.

CUT ASH and MISTI making out very heavily, slamming into walls and knocking vases over.

Music stops on a shot of ASH and MISTI at a wooded waterfront.

MISTI: (near tears) Then just stop Ash.

ASH: I can’t stop, alright?! There’s something inside of me. Something forcing me to continue. I can’t stop I CAN’T! (ASH falters in what he’s about to say next, but continues while not looking at her) I’ve got to catch them all.

The music when one is entering a battle plays as the screen wipes in a counter-clockwise fashion similar to the gameplay. A black screen appears, with the words “Pokemon: Genesis.”

Shot of behind ASH from the waist down. We see his jeans and his hand hanging at his side holding a pokeball. He stands at a literal crossroads with a wooden sign to his right reading “Now Leaving Pallet Town.”

OAK (V.O.) This world is inhabited by creatures called “Pokemon.” Some raise pokemon as pets, while others, use them in battle.

BLACK screen, words appear “July 2012”

And that, ladies and gentleman, is a movie trailer.  If you weren’t particularly able to follow what was happening in it, then you’re probably Chris Bogue.
