In our latest podcast, I was questioned about my new favorite drinking game, Slappy Cup. My brother taught me this epic and wonderful game on Halloween, and I have been itching to play it again ever since. This game is tricky to explain, but once you are playing it, it is amazing and action-packed. Slappy Cup is no myth, con, or lie; it is only magic. And it will get you DRUNK.

I believe that, in time, Slappy Cup will become the new Beer Pong. I think it’s better than beer pong because you can play with more than just four people (I think we got up to eight), there is constant action and everyone must be alert, it is fast-paced and competitive, and you get to slap cups to the ground! Don’t worry, there is no mess. Confused yet? Good. Because I have taken the time to write out the rules of Slappy Cup for all of you folks to enjoy. I have consulted the internet and my older brother (the Slappy Cup Master) to make sure I’ve got it all down. And now without further adieu, how to play Slappy Cup…

Object: To slap opponent’s cups away to make them drink.

Things You Will Need:

-Two folding tables placed next to each other or one large table

-Six or more players (4-5 is doable but not as fun)

-27 cups: 25 in the middle in a 5×5 formation, 2 extra cups for shooting

-Two ping pong Balls

-Beer and an optional few shots of hard alcohol

How to Play:

1) Place cups in the middle of the table. For a party, make a large square formation of cups, five by five. To modify for only four people, make a flower formation of 13 cups with one cup in the middle and then six and six around it.

Don't worry, I'm a visual learner too.

2) Fill up the middle cup entirely with beer or a few shots of hard alcohol if you want to get a little crazy (we used Dr. McGillicudy’s Mint Schnapps). Fill up the surrounding cups only about a quarter of the way full with beer, the same amount as you would in beer pong. Remember to reserve those two empty cups along with two ping pong balls.

3) Players stand around the perimeter of the table. Two players standing across from each other begin and bounce their ping pong ball into the empty cup in front of them. Two things can happen here…

  • If it takes you more than one shot, you pass the cup to the person on your right OR
  • If you make it on the first shot, you can pass to ANYONE around the table. *You’ll usually want to pass to the person behind whoever’s still trying to make the bounce so you can screw them over*

Don't slap people; only cups.

4) If two people right next to each other are shooting (with no one in between them), it initiates what I like to call a CHALLENGE! The two players race to get their ball into their cup first. The player on the right side tries to escape getting their cup slapped so that they can pass their cup along, while the player on the left tries to get their ball in first so they can SLAP the other player’s cup to the ground. Note: You can only slap the cup of the person to your immediate right.

5) If your cup gets slapped, you must quickly grab a cup of beer from the center, drink it, and then this becomes your new shooting cup. If you have just slapped someone else’s cup, then pass over that person to the next person on the right, and game play continues.

6) Remember that toxic cup in the middle filled with beer or shots of hard alcohol? If you are the loser at the end of the game, drink up, it’s all yours!

And them’s the rules! I have not created this game; I am just passing along what knowledge I have. I heard Slappy Cup was created at U of I or somewhere in Southern Illinois within the past couple years. I hope you include this exciting new game at your next get together and spread it to the world. I have my brother to thank for introducing me to this epic, epic game. Happy Drinking Games Week, everyone!!!
