RiskI am about to play Risk for the first time in a few years. I was never terribly good at Risk, but I’ve learned a few things.

  1. Most Risk games are won by the person who gets bored slowest.
  2. The “risk” implied by the title is that of getting a tiny piece in your eye when somebody flips the board.

The bright side of Risk is that anyone who actually finishes a game of Risk is a winner in my eyes.

There are many effective strategies (that of course never work for me). The one I will hopefully employ is the “Asia Ooze”. The ooze is an old favorite that involves setting up Australia as a base and then oozing your way across Asia until you can control the continent and hold only three border countries (Kamchatka, Middle East, Ukraine).

I’ve noticed that many games do not end when the better players eliminate the weaker ones. Games usually come to a close when someone gets sick of playing and throws all their units into a suicidal attack against someone who had wronged them earlier.

Does anyone else have good advice? I’ll need it soon.
